A Couple

Deep in South Carolina is what remains of an old plantation, the name of which I actually cannot say. These days it is an absolutely massive collection of art pieces, statues, and gardens stretching over a gigantic plot of land...but the actual plantation itself is long gone, lost to time. As part of what this place has to offer, a large section of the grounds has been converted into a zoo for species native to South Carolina...but zoos can hide special surprises. Along a sun-dappled pathway leading from the livestock exhibits, a delicate spider's web was strung above the pathway, nigh-invisible without a lucky eye...but I spotted these two; a pair of Golden Orb Weavers, caught in a sunbeam. Like most spiders, the female is the larger of the two, while the male is so small I actually didn't even notice it until I was safely at home, looking over the photos from our trip.
